Dynamic Modal Analysis of a Portable Ultrasonic Cleaner

The client created these designs with SolidWorks. DeepSoft, LLC. reduced their original 3D solid model files to a simplified but structurally significant solid model. This model was imported into Algor FEA for linear static stress analysis, dynamic drop impact analysis, and dynamic modal  analysis. The modal analysis computes the resonant frequencies of the structure and their specific mode shapes.

Key Benefits of Using FEA in Virtual Product Development

  • Reduce product development time and cost by reducing design iterations

  • Reduce product development time and cost by reducing the number of prototypes constructed

  • Reduce the amount of physical product testing, it is still very important to conduct some physical tests

  • Reduce time to market

  • Increase product quality through better understanding of how the product stands up to it's intended use

  • The earlier FEA is introduced into the product life cycle the better

  • Use FEA to drive product design

  • The Principal has over thirty years of varied FEA experience doing stress, thermal, and dynamic analyses

Different Types of Engineering Analyses Available

A wide variety of analyses are available as appropriate for your project. These range from basic linear static stress analysis, heat transfer, thermal stress, a number of different dynamic analyses, to nonlinear analyses. Linear static analysis results sometimes indicate the need for a dynamic or nonlinear analysis. Even if you know in advance that a dynamic or nonlinear analysis is required - a linear static analysis is normally conducted first. If the product, or the FEA model of the product, cannot survive a linear static analysis; problems must first be fixed at that level before progressing to more complex, time consuming, and expensive dynamic or nonlinear analyses.

Linear

  • Static stress or structural analysis

  • Dynamic stress or structural analysis

Thermal

  • Steady state heat transfer

  • Transient heat transfer

  • Thermal stress

Dynamic

  • Modal analysis, also called normal modes analysis

  • Normal modes vibration analysis via modal effective mass

  • Drop impact - quasi static

  • Drop impact - nonlinear response

  • Transient analysis / time step - modal superposition

  • Transient analysis / time step - direct integration

  • Frequency response analysis - sinusoidal vibration

  • Random response analysis - random vibration

  • Shock response analysis - response spectrum

  • Seismic analysis

Specialized

  • Buckling

  • Fatigue life

  • Weld analysis

  • Composite materials

Nonlinear - most of the above coupled with specific nonlinearity

  • Geometric nonlinearity

  • Material nonlinearity

  • Contact nonlinearity

  • Drop impact - nonlinear response
