Modal analysis determines mode deformation shapes or Eigenvectors at specific natural
frequencies or Eigenvalues. It does not calculate deflection or stress and no
loads are applied during the analysis. It determines the relationship between model
geometry, material properties, and frequency. It is the method used to determine
resonant frequencies and mode shapes for a single part, an assembly of parts, or an entire structure. Just
as a linear static stress analysis is normally the precursor to all other types
of FEA, modal analysis is normally the precursor to most types of dynamic
analyses.
